One of the very first documentaries ever made on Albanian history and archaeology; a country we only discovered in 1991 with the arrival of ships loaded with refugees, but which boasts a millennia-long history of culture and civilization.
The Studio Blu Production crew, thanks to its collaboration with A.S.S.O. and the organizers of the Liburna Project, as well as the Albanian government and navy, and with the support of the Italian Guardia di Finanza in Albania from 2007 to 2009, closely followed the research and explorations for the production of one of the very first documentaries on Albanian history and archaeology; A country we only discovered in 1991 with the arrival of ships loaded with refugees, yet one that boasts a millennia-long history of culture and civilization.
The investigations focused on Porto Palermo Bay south of Durrës, the exceptional maritime sanctuary of Grama Bay, the submerged remains of the ancient city of Tronion in the waters off Cape Triport, and the area of ancient Orikum, the site of a famous naval battle between Caesar and Pompey in the waters off the Karaburun promontory. In 2008, an expedition was also conducted to the wreck of the hospital ship PO, sunk in March 1941 by the British Air Force in the Bay of Vlorë, where 18 sailors and 3 Red Cross nurses perished; the ship is historically significant due to the presence on board of Edda Ciano Mussolini, who miraculously survived the shipwreck.
